this time of year is always fun for us + though we are busy bees around the studio these days with save the dates and invitations, there is a chance for us to reflect on the past year. it’s hard to put into words how thankful we are for 2024! this year brought some of the most amazing couples along with some incredibly talented creatives that we had the chance to collaborate with from coast to coast! Some of our favorite collaborations took us from the beaches of Santa Barbara and Miami to the streets of New York + everywhere in between. we can’t forget the times we found ourselves internationally from going on safari in Kenya to soaking in the incredible architecture + flavors of Mexico City. we feel so blessed to be part of our clients’ journeys by helping them in forming the identity of their event + sharing their story. the trust our clients put in our creative direction is something we deeply treasure.
we always feel like a little kid on christmas morning when it comes to styling days + sharing the images captured. all of the hard work, planning, anticipation, + excitement all come together to create some magic. these styling days brought us to LA where we had the amazing opportunity to create with Brandon Kidd Photography and Jennifer Kidd with Chasing Stone. both Brandon + Jennifer are wonderful human beings, but also incredible masters of their craft. we left our time feeling so inspired + have been counting down the days to share all the magical images.
it’s no secret that styling is one of our favorite parts of our job + it’s an honor to share some of our favorites along with a couple small tips. we would love to share more, but just like santa, we have to keep a couple tricks up our sleeves ;)
tip #1: investing in quality styling surfaces is super important! when it comes to styling surfaces + backdrops, we could not recommend chasing stone enough. we are always on the road + surfaces that are high quality, durable + travel well are crucial for what we do. we invest so much time in each detail of our pieces that we always look for fabric + hand painted surfaces that will compliment + highlight them seamlessly. we could go on all day about how much we enjoy their craftsmanship, but their work speaks for itself. keep scrolling or head on over to their page to check out all their beautiful options.
tip #2: prop sourcing is a very intentional process. intentional props can allow the product being photographed to really speak. when sourcing items ahead of time, you should consider: shape, scale, shade + sensibility. if the prop satisfies 3 of those 4 elements, it will likely fit well within your composition. in this flat lay below, you will see concentric circular shapes, complimentary color tones, props that do not outshine or outscale the invitation + pieces that all make sense with the overall composition.
tip #3: our go-to consideration when designing a flat lay is “consider the setting”. this couple’s chosen venue, a working flower farm, was our springboard inspiration for this flat lay, particularly with the concept of “in bloom”. floral in this flat lay were strategically arranged to arc around the focus of the flat lay. it works to overlap + integrate the periphery elements in the composition.
happy styling friends! thank you 2024 for all the creativity, joy + magic you brought. cheers to you 2025, we can’t wait to see all the fun you will bring + all the beauty we will get to be part of creating!
